PaSiBudget

A bilingual offline rice-farm planner connecting budget assumptions, recorded expenses, harvest, sales, and break-even scenarios, with reports and validated backup/restore.

Local-first planning research prototype

01 / Overview

What it’s built for.

Bring a season’s assumptions, spending, harvest, sales, and receipts into one understandable planning workflow, including when connectivity is unavailable.

Who it serves

Rice farmers and researchers exploring season budgets and break-even scenarios.

02 / Features

Inside the app.

Farms and seasons

Manage separate real and sample farms, copy a previous season’s plan, and archive completed seasons.

Costs and scenarios

Track cash, non-cash, and imputed costs; compare changes in cost, harvest, and price without mixing planned and recorded totals.

Sales and receipts

Record harvested quantity, sales, partial payments, and unpaid balances as distinct measures.

Reports and recovery

Export CSV, print a season report, and validate a JSON restore before adding copies of records.

03 / Workflow

From task to outcome.

  1. Create a farm and season, or open the separate sample farm.

  2. Enter costs, harvest assumptions, matching grain condition, and price.

  3. Record expenses, harvest, sales, and payments as the season progresses.

  4. Compare scenarios and break-even results, then export a report and backup.

04 / Technical layers

How the pieces work.

Interface

React · TypeScript · Vite

Responsive English/Filipino screens, completeness feedback, and protected unsaved edits.

Application logic

decimal.js

Browser-side calculations keep unknown values distinct from zero and round break-even targets upward.

Storage

Dexie · IndexedDB

Versioned records live in the current device’s browser. No server database or account is required.

Offline and portability

Service worker · JSON backup

Bundled assets are available after a successful initial load; validated backups transfer data across browsers or devices.

05 / Limitations

What to keep in mind.

  • Sample costs and prices are invented demonstrations. The app does not predict yields or prices or guarantee profit.
  • Clearing browser storage or losing a device can lose records without a backup. Backups are not encrypted.
  • Cloud sync, multi-user access, and formal farmer usability evaluation are outside the documented release.
